Interior Design Tips to Styling Open Shelving

Lafayette Remodel Interior Designer

Whether you are in a tiny apartment in the city or live on a rural countryside in a farmhouse, you might have some open shelving in your home that can easily be elevated into something intentional and swoon worthy.

Design Tip 1: Be Sure to Measure

One mistake often expressed by many homeowners is they forget to measure the depth of their shelving. Sometimes shelving is even too narrow to hold coffee table books. Make sure things are to scale.

Collect items around your house that you might want to display, Be purposeful with your items. That trinket from your vacation last year or a meaningful picture that you can frame adds a uniqueness and “eclecticness” to your space.

Design Tip 2: Add Height

Super easy ways to add height are vases! Bundle them together in groups or pairs.

Design Tip 3: Organization

Everyone needs to “hide” things so a good way is to ground the lower shelf with large baskets.
