Wallpaper Wonders

Wallpaper kid's room project in Lafayette, CA by Yoko Oda Interior Design

Many of my interior design clients and friends ask me about wallpaper. In Japan, regular walls almost always have wallpaper of some kind, whereas in the U.S., we mostly have sheetrock and paint. My personal preference as an interior designer is always wallpaper, thanks to the more advanced approach to decorating it offers. I sometimes use it to enhance the natural elements in my design, bringing more texture to any room in your home in San Francisco.

Wallpaper is a delicate textile which can work to elevate any home design with its pattern, texture and color. Simply put, paint and rookie designers cannot do that. There is a lot involved in selecting the proper materials for the wallpaper installation process, which many people often overlook, thinking it’s a simple task. Working with an interior designer will ensure that your wallpaper makes for a classy and timeless addition to your home, as opposed to it potentially looking cheap or out of place with the rest of your home décor in the East Bay.

Many think that wallpaper goes out of style, but that’s a myth I work hard to try and dispel. Some people want to repaint rooms in different paint colors many times, always trying to keep up with modern trends and home design fads. Keep in mind that if you try to do this with wallpaper, it’s expensive and not easy to do. If you are someone who changes your mind quickly and often, then wallpaper is likely not for you. However, if you are looking to make a statement in any space in your home, it’s one of the best interior design upgrades any homeowner can benefit from.

There are so many bold, mild and subtle patterns and colors that balance and complete your home design, which completely transforms your space. When installed by professionals, wallpaper is a simple way to upgrade any room without having to knock down walls or make dramatic changes to the layout of your home in San Francisco. Here I’m going to share some of my recent projects as an interior designer, so you can see examples of how wallpaper has improved the aesthetic of homes throughout the local area. You’ll see that wallpaper isn’t just for use in the bedroom, as it can be added to workplaces and offices to create more light and space.

1. Bold and Fun Statement Wallpaper

I created a focal point in this kid’s “jungle” bedroom in Lafayette, CA. The wallpaper has an amazing wood texture and is indestructible, which makes it ideal for your children’s bedroom. You don’t have to have wallpaper in all walls, and instead can just make a statement by adding one or two walls worth of the design.
