Dear Yoko,
What’s your favorite stone countertop edge? Deciding on a countertop edge is probably the last thing you would think about during kitchen and bath remodels. A lot goes into this topic and it is an important one, since it tends to determine the look of your style. I have posted a couple of articles on this topic that are great resources for anyone who is considering stone countertop edges.
1.Countertop Edging Profiles
2. My Top 3 Picks:Countertop Edging
Choice 1: Mitered Flat Polish –This gives you a clean and modern look that I love. No laminated seams will be visible because it’s mitered. It is modern, but you can use it for any style.
Choice 2: Demi Bullnose –This is a transitional look. Laminated seams will be shown. Because the top part of a stone is bullnosed, it gives a softer look than mitered one (Choice 1). I like this over Full Bullnose Edging,as it is practical and water does not run onto your base cabinets.
Choice 3: Ogee Flat Polish–This is a traditional look and gets more attention. Laminated seams will look intentional with its Ogee rather ornate steps. I like Ogee over Dupont because it is curved downwards, not upwards like Dupont. While Dupont looks too chunky and overpowering, Ogee looks skinnier and more defined to me. You could mix this edge with my choice #1, the mitered edge, having 2 different edges in one space. The placement of Ogee will need to be a focal point, such as an island in a kitchen.
I hope these resources are helpful to you as you brainstorm for your own projects. Have a wonderful day!
