Working with Yoko has been an absolute pleasure. Last summer I moved from San Diego to the Bay Area. I had made the decision to donate the majority of my household goods before moving and was looking to start fresh. I searched the ASID website for designers in the area and came across Yoko’s name. I went to her website, saw her designs and instantly decided to call her. Yoko came by for an initial visit and after a discussion of my desire to adopt a minimalistic approach, she got right to work, photographing my empty space and taking precise measurements of every corner of my home. Yoko explained that the measurements would eventually be combined with the dimensions of the furniture in a Computer-Assisted Design program, to ensure that everything was in proper proportion to the size and scale of my interior. After several weeks, Yoko sent me her designs for each room and I was absolutely delighted. Each room was airy and modern, but approachable. The designs were not only beautiful but functional, too. I have genuinely enjoyed working with Yoko. During the course of my project, she was always upbeat (even in the midst of the pandemic that we are currently in) and very responsive in answering the many questions I sent her by E-mail. I was constantly amazed by her ability to recall the minutest details of my interiors. I would gladly work with Yoko again and am truly looking forward to engaging her and her design team on future projects. -W.B.
My husband and I highly recommend Yoko Oda as an interior designer! Prior to meeting Yoko, we have never used a designer before and we felt our home lacked style and comfortable living spaces. We had plenty of available rooms however we felt that they were not utilized appropriately and lacked joy when we walked into them. We wanted to have lots of usable space. When we first met Yoko, she spent lots of time talking to us to get an idea of our lifestyle and if we gravitated towards one style or another. We may have been a challenge in that we had absolutely no idea of the various styles and what we felt comfortable with. She quickly put us at ease. She came up with some ideas based on our daily lifestyle and personalities and basically turned our home into a place that accommodated all our needs. She initially designed our living room, family room and dining room. She brought life back into these rooms and we now enjoy and use every living space she has touched. Her team also consisted of the best contractor and crew, electrician and a custom cabinet maker, all of whom did beautiful meticulous work! In fact, we liked her work so much we called her back to help design our master, daughter’s room, office, loft and downstairs bedroom. She incorporated thoughtful personal touches based on our backgrounds throughout our home. My husband and I highly recommend Yoko Oda; she’s fun, down to earth, open and honest with her suggestions, very accessible and easy to work with! I’ve always dreamed of having a house that just makes you smile when you walk in the front door and that is exactly what Yoko delivered. Our home is over 50 years old and we were just always too busy with the kids to do anything about it. We had small projects done here and there but there was definitely no feeling of cohesiveness. Yoko came in with a blank slate to work with and she magically turned it into our forever home. It’s modern yet warm and inviting. The clean lines and colors are vibrant yet soothing. The contractors that she works with are amazing in their own rights. The beautiful built in cabinetry always receives rave reviews when we welcome guests. I’m able to store all our family’s ‘stuff’ in a gorgeous wall of floor to ceiling cabinets where I never would have dreamed they would work. Yoko has the vision and the creativity to make what you hope for to happen. She is diligent, time conscious, listens to your wants and needs, will be straightforward in telling you if something can or cannot happen but will always find an alternate solution. Case in point, my dream was to have a big island in our kitchen – that is the one thing I asked for, everything else I left up to her. Because of the layout of our kitchen space and the need for clearance of the appliances, an island of that size just wasn’t possible. I was crushed. So Yoko extended the island she had in her plans to a length of 10 feet and while you might think this was crazy, because I did at first, it couldn’t have worked out better! 4 people can do prep work on that island, 12 adults can stand around the island decorating cookies or enjoying wine and cheese, it’s a dream for a buffet set up! I could go on and on about how talented I think Yoko is. If you are fortunate enough to be able to work with her, you will not be disappointed. We so enjoyed working with Yoko on our two home renovation projects. Yoko’s attention to detail and process are evident throughout the duration of your project. She is present for important material deliveries to ensure quality products are delivered and monitors all critical installs. Yoko presents detailed cost estimates and sticks to them; any changes are presented in advance and there are no surprises when it comes to your budget. She takes great pride in her work and it shows in the materials she selects for her designs, taking into consideration your inspiration and needs. Yoko was very professional and easy to work with. She was interested in finding out the style of master bath I envisioned. I loved the design she created. She was happy to make the small changes I requested. Her general contractor was excellent. He was very considerate and kept me informed as the project progressed. The finished master bath is beautiful and functional, beyond what I envisioned. – P.B.
Yoko and her team are simply a “must have” when planning for a remodel and redesign project. I had a real challenge on my hands, a 1200 townhome in need of full remodeling….kitchen, baths, flooring, millwork, fireplace/bookcase etc. I was overwhelmed and had no idea where to start……and petrified that if I took on the project without help I would spend a lot of money and end up wasting money. Oh, and by the way, I was located 1000 miles away leaving real challenges to work with contractors and material suppliers. Yoko managed the entire project, and was/is simply brilliant…..her design concept, materials choices and finished project produced a home transitioned from a mid-1970’s production home into an absolutely awesome living space featuring functional use of space with a contemporary-yet timeless look. My wife and I purchased a 1940s rancher that desperately needed a kitchen, dining room, and living room remodel and we wanted to utilize the services of a designer. This was the first time we ever entered into a kitchen remodel. In addition, we were anxious as to whether Ms. Oda could transform our space. The space was dark, small, and claustrophobic. We were really thinking buying this home was a mistake. When we first met Ms. Oda, we were not sure we could match our ideas with Ms. Oda’s ideas. We knew that she specialized in Zen spaces and we did not see the concept we wanted in her previous projects. We sent her some ideas and she assured us that she could use our concept. She was extremely open to our ideas and the plans she presented to us were pretty much what we had in mind. We suggested very few changes. My past experience with remodel projects was that logistics and cost certainty was always an issue for us. Ms. Oda promised us that she would take care of all the logistics she would try to deliver on budget. She followed through on managing the process and took care of the hassles. Aside from a few add ons that were identified during the permit process or that we requested the budget came in pretty close to what we expected. Ms. Oda was sensitive to our need to stay on budget. The place looks great. She assured me that we would no longer feel claustrophobic in the space and she was correct. Ms. Oda has an incredible ability to visualize the end results of a project and our trust in her was rewarded. The transformation was incredible. – S.T.
Yoko Oda is a creative, professional, courteous designer with excellent problem solving skills. All home projects have unexpected imperfections and having someone like Yoko to assist in suggesting solutions or follow-up is so valuable. It was a pleasure working with someone who holds the team to a high level of quality; my kitchen, dining and living room remodel moved along smoothly. Now complete, it has been such a wow factor to us and all our guests. We live in a smaller home where every square foot counts. Yoko made that happen – a beautiful, functional, cohesive space with a strong design intent and no wasted space. I would be privileged to work with her again on another interiors project. Yoko is a wonderful interior designer. She remodeled my new place including a living room, family room, 2 bathrooms and kitchen. I particularly like her clean modern style. She designed a custom kitchen with all custom cabinetry and nice leather granite countertop. She designed a living room with custom furniture including new custom sofa bed, and new built-in units. In the family room, she put in custom light fixtures, recessed lighting, and a custom office desk. Both bathrooms got sleek modern style that fits my San Francisco esthetics. As a frequent traveler to Asia, I fell in love with custom quartz counter and a full-function heated toilet seat. In addition to both bathrooms, she designed and installed 2 custom closet organizer systems in my master bedroom. Our remodeling process was easy. She was very organized and on time and in budget. – R.H.
I felt compelled to share this review as Yoko Oda and her team at Yoko Oda Interior Design deserve a shout out! I remodeled my kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and updated paint throughout our house, as well as furniture in family room. I will summarize what I loved:
+ For every mini-project, Yoko offered me several options for color, tile, fabrics, fixtures, etc. (unfortunately this was difficult as I liked them all)
+ Yoko kept to my budget, always showing me ways to maximize my remodel dollars (with our savings we were able to do more than we originally thought).
+ Design options and advice were amazing.
+ Yoko and her team are efficient: our meetings were well planned out and covered all issues as necessary (no additional meetings or conversations due to forgotten details/issues).
+ We have received so many compliments on our remodel….now I know that it isn’t just me that loves our classy new house look!
