Blackhawk Beauty is a traditional yet spacious home which is located in Blackhawk, California. The 4,000 square-foot gated estate sits on half an acre and offers everything a family could dream of when living in the San Francisco Bay Area. With a resort-style pool, spa, private courtyard, and sweeping hills behind the property, this was one of our most exciting remodel projects to date.

Our long-time client purchased this Blackhawk home when it still had its original period crushing moldings. With wall mirrored hallways and dark travertine tiles, it was certainly time for an update to the property. Our team at Yoko Oda Interior Design took this dated Tudor home and over a short period of time transformed it into a timeless yet modern Californian ranch. The aim was to integrate the modern aesthetic that our clients are so fond of while adding more natural lighting to the home, making it somewhere that’s a pleasure to spend time at any time of the year.

One of the highlights of this remodel was working with the 25’ vaulted ceilings. These add such light and character to the space and create a very welcoming first impression. We used the popular open concept on the backyard and courtyard, offering more space than is typical of homes in the San Francisco Bay Area. The color palette we went for added more texture and light, with light gray stained oak flooring and white oak cabinetry. Marble and limestone are used in the fireplace masonry work, and we also added a subtle touch of class to the bathrooms with marble tiling.

With any interior design project we work on in the Blackhawk area, our aim is to tell our client’s story. When you step into a home, it should tell you something about the people who live there. The modern furniture, lighting, and layered textural materiel work to show the young family’s personal style. Although we focused on modern interiors, a warm color palette was accented with moody grays which add a touch of elegance to the home.

The exterior has a similar theme to the interior of the home, keeping a coherence throughout the project and making a strong first impression on any guests who approach the property. We added white accents and modern lighting fixtures to create more space and light, making it more enjoyable to be indoors in the winter months. Thanks to the removal of many of the dated Tudor details, we were able to modernize this home and make it somewhere the family will enjoy spending time for years to come.
